One of my favorite actresses, Susan Hayward, starred in a film called, BACK STREET. Based on a bestselling book, it is a love story about a woman who falls in love with a married man and all of the dilemmas that follow both in his life and hers. Knowing she has entered into a relationship with only brief encounters, she chooses just that. To spend only a few hours or days with this man while he sneaks away from his family. So that is the scenario. Kind of common in today’s world!
Early on a Thanksgiving morning, she places a call to her sister from her lonely motel room where she is by herself. After chatting about what her sister and family will share in the traditional meal, Susan utters softly, SAVE THE DRUMSTICK for me. Evidently, when she and her sister were growing up, she had always asked for that part of the turkey bird.
So there she was, alone in a motel room on a huge holiday waiting for a phone call from her lover– whenever he could find the time. Rough dilemma and one I would not recommend to anyone. But love is special and makes us delirious with choices, some of them, BAD! Again, this could be construed as a Judgement, but something to heed!
LESSON: This story may appear short but it is a very important one! Getting involved with a married person opens Pandora’s box in many ways. It is easy to be persuaded to go this route, but actually there is only loss ahead of you..yours! To me the real dilemma is, do you want to be part of breaking up a family? Far better to wait till the divorce, if it even happens, and begin a relationship! This will take strength on your part…and his! Just be careful.
