I think the most important feeling here in Antarctica is enjoying the freedom of the animals. As I write this, two Wendell Seals are swimming in the Bay, the sun is shining brightly above and the air is cold and pure as a crystal vase.
I believe the joy I have and will always remember is that everything is free here and that the world has not touched it in wasteful ways. I gaze out at glaciers millions of years old, Lava Rock Mountains exposed by the sun and know that our ship will leave this place as it is — after our visit.
Who can say this today? Where is there a place where no man has lived except for a few whalers years ago and the only real fear present is fear among the animals themselves? Staying alive is what occupies their days and keeping warm their nights.
Simple, pure, cold, blue, white, smooth, artistic, quiet, breathtaking are all words that describe the beauty of Antarctica.
Truly, a miracle made by God whose name is engraved on very object. I feel blessed to be here and hope my love of this land can be shared with others.
I believe our mission after visiting is to be ambassador’s to a place few will experience. Our stories, our pictures and our prayers give hope to future generations who will visit after us. My personal promise is to never forget the tranquility that our modern world cannot give…but Antarctica…CAN!!!
