Have you ever thought about the difference in the tears that we shed? Have you ever thought there were different kinds, different reactions to them and the meaning behind the differences? I have.
The other day while driving in my car, I listened to a familiar song. I could remember exactly how old I was, where I was and who I was with as the words flowed throughout the car. I kept my eyes on the road ahead, but my thoughts drifted back to a simpler, younger time in my life. When the song was finished and I had stopped at a traffic light, tears were flowing down my cheeks. These were what I call– memory tears!
I think Memory tears are different for several reasons. First, they spring out of nowhere! Also, I feel no need to wipe them from my face but instead just rub my hands over them feeling the warmth of time. They also dry faster than other tears leaving pictures in your mind of another place.
There are tears of sorrow, happiness, pride, pain, fear, sadness and the list goes on and on. But the memory tears are the best because they allow looking back at life and reliving many moments of love.
The next time, you shed memory tears, please enjoy them. Even if a loved one is not present to share with you, there is a connection. That is a gift from God– so enjoy it!
